President Tomeing met with Congressman Eni F.H. Faleomavaega to discuss several issues on the 177 Program, USAKA transformation activities, and the Nuclear Tribunal Claims. Congressman Eni F.H. held panels with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 177 Health Care Program, Ministry of Health Services, Education, Four Atolls, and the Nuclear Claims Tribunal, etc to get first hand knowledge. Close Up 2008 - 03-28-2008
WASHINGTON, DC – On March 26, 2008, a group of high school students from the Marshall Islands visited the RMI Embassy to the United States as part of this year’s annual week-long “Close-up Program”. Twenty students, accompanied by two teachers from the Marshall Islands High School and the Kwajalein Atoll High School, had been in Washington the past week, and have been taking part in various educational activities.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands Government shows concern over the USAKA Transformation scheme. - 03-18-2008
Majuro, March 14, 2008 – The Republic of the Marshall Islands Government has established an Action Planning Committee (APC) to review and monitor the effects and impacts of the transformation activities on Kwajalein as they unfold. The Action Planning Committee will be responsible for coordinating all information relating to the effect of USAKA transformation activities and their impact on Marshallese employees, examining and monitoring the effect of USAKA transformation activities on the RMI workforce, assessing all viable options for mitigation and ameliorations, establishing priorities in regard to effective intervention strategies, and providing reports of recommendation to the President and Cabinet no later than April 30, 2008.

RMI Government dismayed by abrupt USAKA Reduction in Force - 03-04-2008
Majuro, (March 3, 2008). Barely 50 days have passed since the new government settled into its first term of office when it was given notice by the United States of a USAKA Transformation scheme which will have direct and immediate adverse impact on Marshallese employees in Kwajalein Atoll. In his briefing of the President and Cabinet last Thursday, the USAKA/RTS Commander, Col. Stevenson Reed, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to RMI, Clyde Bishop, laid out the details of the scheme and the impact of what he called ‘transformation activities” of USAKA.

Groundbreaking Ceremony: New office for Marshall Islands Retiree Association. - 02-26-2008
Majuro, MH February 18, 2008 The Marshall Islands Retiree Association held a Groundbreaking Ceremony on February 15, 2008, to break grounds for a new office complex. The new office will be located behind the Alele Museum and adjacent the Court House. The Mashall Islands Retiree Association Office is funded by the Government of Japan.

Marshall Islands Rugby Club - 02-26-2008
Majuro, MH February 26, 2008 – President Litokwa Tomeing and Minister-in-Assistance presented a check in support of the Marshall Islands Rugby Club (MIRC). The Marshall Islands Rugby Club will leave for Guam this week to compete in the True GRIT Guam Rugby Invitational Tournament held March 1st and 2nd. Last year the rugby club came in second and this year the rugby club is going all the way for first place.

Majuro, MH February 13, 2008 – President Litokwa Tomeing departed Saturday February 9, 2008 to attend the Kwajalein Liberation Day. The residents of Ebeye welcomed and greeted President Litokwa Tomeing and delegation on their second trip to Kwajalein with leis provided by Leroij Seagull James-Kabua, and music by the students from Kwajalein.

President-elect Litokwa Tomeing and the 10-member Cabinet were sworn into office by the Honorable Carl Ingram, Chief Justice of the High Court. Congress Approves H.R. 2705 - 11-14-2007
Marshall Islands—President Kessai H. Note welcomed the United States House of Representatives’ approval of the Compacts of Free Association Amendment Act of 2007 (H.R. 2705) introduced by Del. Donna Christensen (D-VI). President Note, who has met on numerous occasions with Congresswoman Christensen on these changes, said that the amendments and Congress’ swift action shows the close and friendly relationship between the two countries.
