MAJURO
Your Excellency,
First and foremost, let us give thanks for a beautiful morning and for this special time to gather amongst friends.
Your Excellency, it is with great pleasure to convey the warmest greetings of “yokwe,” and to welcome Your Excellency to the Republic, on behalf of Marshallese people and their government.
As a representative of a country well known throughout history, we are indeed honored by your visit to our humble shores.
Spain’s history is certainly known here in the Marshall Islands as the first sea-faring explorers from Spain arrived on our shores in the 16th century. The arrival of the Spanish navigators are very much an important part of our history. The fact that they were able to land on our shores is a symbol of the skill, spirit of adventure, and courage of the Spanish navigators. Besides this important link in history, our people share a common outlook on the value of traditional cultures and the importance of teaching and keeping that culture alive for our future generations. Most important, today our respective countries stand tall and proud upon the strong pillars of freedom and justice.
Upon these common grounds, I believe we stand to gain more mutual benefits from this special friendship and welcome frank and honest dialogue as we look at ways to further strengthen and expand our ties.
I take this special opportunity to thank the government of Spain for the assistance to the region through the Pacific Islands Forum, as illustrated by training programs in the areas of diplomacy and international relations, and other developmental programs, obviously very important programs, especially in terms of sustaining peace and prosperity around the region and indeed the world.
Having said that, Your Excellency, on behalf of the Marshallese people, I am honored to accept your Letter of Credence.
Congratulations on your new post.
Last, but not least, please convey our warm greetings and best wishes to His Majesty, the King, as well as the Prime Minister, and the people of Spain.
Thank you.
