MAJURO

Your Excellency,

I wish to convey the warmest greetings of “Yokwe” and welcome on behalf of the People and Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

The RMI and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have enjoyed a friendly and cooperative relationship since the formal establishment of diplomatic relations in 1993. Although, vastly different in physical characteristics, our countries have much in common, including the fact that they both stand upon the strong principles of freedom and justice, albeit at close to and in some respect, below, sea level rise. Our people have had their share of colonization, only to emerge stronger and more united towards a brighter and more prosperous future rooted in self-determination and the rule of law. As members of the United Nations, we remain committed to upholding universal peace, security, and freedom, including safeguarding our environment for the sake of future generations.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is well-known for its vibrant private sector, and recognized as a leading international aid donor, including major contributor to the United Nations Development Program, international financial institutions, and EU programs, all of which the Marshall Islands, have and continue to benefit from. We greatly appreciate the generous assistance towards the development of this Republic and Netherlands role in the continuing development of these great institutions.

Your Excellency, without a doubt, the Marshall Islands can gain and learn more from this union through mutual efforts and genuine dialogue as we seek solutions to our common goals and aspirations, especially in relation to an exchange of information and technical cooperation towards the improvement of our social programs in health and education, protection of the environment, including private sector development, trade, renewable energy, and other areas of mutual interest.

Having said that, Your Excellency, I look forward to speaking freely and honestly with you as we strive to further strengthen our mutual friendship during your tour of duty.

Your Excellency, on behalf of the Marshallese people, I am honored to accept your Letter of Credence and Letter of Recall of your predecessor. Congratulations on your new post.

In closing, please convey my greetings to Her Majesty the Queen, the Prime Minister, and the People of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Thank you.
