Cabinet Members Take Oath of Office

President Christopher Jorebon Loeak and members of the Cabinet took the oath of office this morning during a soft swearing-in ceremony administered by High Court Chief Justice Carl B. Ingram with the assistance of the Chief Clerk of the Courts Ingrid K. Kabua at the International Conference Center.

The ceremony, MC’d by the Clerk of Cabinet, Mrs. Yolanda Lodge-Ned, gives effect to the provisions of Article V, Section 5, subsection(1), of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands whereby the allocation of ministerial portfolios by the President is made effective according to law .

The newly sworn-in members of the Cabinet and their respective portfolios, include Tony A. de Brum as the Minister in Assistance to the President; Philip H. Muller as the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dennis Momotaro as the Minister of Finance; Hilda C. Heine as the Minister of Education; David Kabua as the Minister of Health; Rien Morris as the Minister of Transportation and Communications; Hiroshi V. Yamamura as the Minister of Public Works; Wilbur Heine as the Minister of Internal Affairs; Michael Konelios as the Minister of Resources and Development; and Thomas Heine as the Minister of Justice.
The soft swearing-in ceremony effectively provides the authority according to the relevant Constitutional provisions for the President and Cabinet to exercise executive authority over the Marshall Islands.

The public inauguration for the President and Cabinet Ministers is slated for Tuesday, January 17th, 2012.
