Saturday 22, 2011-Today, President Jurelang Zedkaia led the ground breaking ceremony to begin work on the new Laura dock. Also present were, Ambassador George T.K. Li of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Speaker Alvin Jacklick, Minister in Assistance to the President Ruben R. Zackhras, Minister of Finance Jack Ading, Minister of Justice Brenson S. Wase, Minister of Resources and Development Mattlan Zackhras, and Majuro Mayor Titus Langrine, and other dignitaries.
The Laura Dock Project is one of 23 projects funded by the 2011 Republic of China (Taiwan) annual grant. In his remarks, President Jureland Zedkaia acknowledged and thanked the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the generous donation and added, “that the dock will serve various needs of the community and symbolizes the close partnership between the people of Taiwan and the Marshall Islands.”
Ambassador Li thanked President Jurelang Zedkaia for being a supporter of the project and extended his gratitude to all Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) government agencies for making the project possible. Ambassador Li went on to reassure the people and government of the RMI that Republic of China (Taiwan) will continue to perform a 21st century partnership with the RMI through many infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
