Washington, D.C. – On Friday, September 9, 2011 at approximately 5:15PM, Charles Rudolph Paul presented his credentials to U.S. President Barack Obama as the Government of the Republic of the Marshall Island’s third, and youngest serving Ambassador to the United States. The ceremony took place in the historic Oval Office at the White House. Mr. Paul was accompanied by Ms. Dixie Lomae.
Mr. Paul was one of twelve different Ambassadors presenting credentials at the White House. During the ceremony, President Obama conveyed his sincere condolences on the passing of the late Ambassador Banny de Brum.
President Obama also stated he appreciated the close relationship our two countries have, and will count on our support in the future. Ambassador Paul told President Obama that he looked forward to working with him and his Administration on issues of mutual interest.
Mr. Paul graduated from Kwajalein High School with honors in 1999. He graduated magna cum laude with a BA degree in Economics, and a minor in Business Management,from Washington College, in Chestertown, Maryland, in 2003. During his time at Washington College, Mr. Paul became a member of several prestigious international and professional honors societies.
Mr. Paul also worked as an intern at the International Programs Center, U.S. Census Bureau, at the Department of Commerce in Washington D.C. After graduation in 2003, Mr. Paul was employed as an Economic Research Specialist by
the Marshall Islands Office of Compact Negotiations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as negotiations were concluding.
Subsequently, in 2004, Mr. Paul worked as Chief of
Performance Monitoring, Evaluation, and Aid Coordination at the Economic Policy,Planning and Statistics Offic (EPPSO) in Majuro, during the early days of implementation of the amended Compact.
Mr. Paul took on new challenges when he was assigned to work as First Secretary for Health and Education Affairs at the Marshal Islands Embassy to the United States in
2007. In February, 2008, Mr. Paul was appointed Charge d’Affaires ad Interim, and Deputy Chief of Mission to the Embassy.
Cabinet appointed Mr. Paul to the position of Ambassador on July 7, 2011, and the Nitijela confirmed his appointment by way of resolution on August 26, 2011.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by the bestowal of trust and confidence in me from His Excellency President and Iroij Jurelang Zedkaia, The Honorable John M. Silk,
Minister of Foreign Affairs and members of the Cabinet, Nitijela, and People of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. I promise to uphold that confidence and trust and look forward to maintaining and improving the very close, special and unique relationship between our countries, even as we deal with difficult issues in that relationship,” said Ambassador Paul.
Ambassador Paul is the son of Rudolph and Irene Paul of Ebeye, Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
