Spain Ambassador Jorge Manuel Domecq Fernandez presents his Letter of Credence and Letter of Recall of Predecessor

Ambassador Jorge Manuel Domecq Fernandez of Spain presented his Letter of Credence and his predecessor’s Letter of Recall to President Zedkaia on Tuesday, 16th of August.

President Zedkaia accepted the Letter of Credence and welcomed Ambassador Fernandez to the Republic of the Marshall Islands and to his new post as Spain Ambassador to the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

“Both of our countries and peoples are determined, in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, to promote the rule of law and respect for human rights and freedom throughout the world,” said President Zedkaia.

Further stating, “We look forward to working closely with you and your government in exploring further opportunities and to expand and strengthen further the close ties between our two countries.”

Ambassador Fernandez reciprocated and said, “First of all, let me express, on behalf of His Majesty Juan Carlos I, the Spanish people and myself, our best wishes of prosperity and happiness to Your Excellency, your Government and the people of the Marshall Islands.”
“I thank you and your Cabinet for the warm reception you have granted me and I wish to assure you that I will not spare any effort to bring both our countries closer to each other,” said Ambassador Fernandez. “On this sound basis, we have set ourselves in Spain some specific goals and planned some projects that we believe will undoubtedly help bring our countries even closer together,” said Ambassador Fernandez.

To name a few specific goals and projects, Ambassador Fernandez expressed Spain’s interest to become a partner in the Post Forum Dialogue; Increase the level of development aid, has provided a grant to finance, in cooperation with UNESCO, the Pacific Heads of Education Systems Consultation, to be held next week in Palau; stands ready to help and consider any projects related to Climate Change and natural disaster prevention; stands ready to support and develop cultural projects with countries of Asia and the Pacific.

The new Spanish Ambassador is making his round of calls on government officials, the diplomatic corps, and members of the business community and is expected to depart the Marshall Islands on Thursday, 18 August.
