The 2011 Outer Island Agriculture Training Workshop

A 2011 Outer Island Agriculture Training Workshop kicked off on August 8, 2011 at Laura Farm and will run three weeks until August 26, 2011. The workshop is jointly organized by the ROC (Taiwan) Technical Mission and the Ministry of Resources and Development and is the second of the kind this year. Thirteen trainees from Jaluit, Mili, Mejit, Utrik and Majuro will undergo training courses in the categories of vegetable, fruit and animal husbandry. At the Laura Farm, they will have the opportunity of field practice on seedling production, planting management of various kinds of crops, container cultivation, composting, animal husbandry etc.

The workshop aims to teach trainees practical farming knowledge and skills, in the hope that they will become seeded farmers in the outer islands with the responsibility of sharing what they have learnt with the people living in outer islands so as to achieve the goal of self reliance and self sufficiency on food.
