At a courtesy visit President Zedkaia spoke with members of the National Youth Congress on Monday, 25 July 2011. The members of the National Youth Congress are attending the Capacity Building training this week and will hold its first ever National Youth Festival schedule for this Saturday, 30 July and will continue the following week. “Although I will not be able to attend the opening of the 1st National Youth Festival, I will be with you in spirit,” said President Zedkaia.
“We are getting old,” referring to his generation, “we need you to actively engage with the community and to work together and challenge yourselves with the problems of today,” said President Zedkaia. “There are increased numbers of suicide amongst our youths, car accidents, teen pregnancies and many more. These are serious issues we’ve identified, now we need to resolve them,” said President Zedkaia. “Take action,” President Zedkaia emphasized, “not only during conferences but throughout your lives in your respective communities, churches, and so forth.”
President Zedkaia expressed his support and concluded with two Marshallese proverbs, “Komelulu bebe juon in ad---united together, progress together,” and “kan im aemeran---the welfare of people is more important than material value.”
