HAND OVER OF 200 BICYCLES AND 1,000 SUN GLASSES DONATIONS

Majuro - Today, His Excellency President Jurelang Zedkaia accepted, on behalf of the Republic of the Marshall Islands 2 twenty feet containers holding 200 bicycles and 1,000 sun glasses from the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ambassador to the Republic of the Marshall Islands His Excellency George T.K. Li, in a brief ceremony held outside the Procurement and Supply Warehouse in Delap.

Speaking on behalf of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Ambassador Li said, “these donations, particularly, the sun glasses are a result of discussions between President Ma and President Zedkaia on the high rate of eye cataract suffered by Marshallese from exposure to the sun for extended period of time.” Ambassador Li continued, “he hopes that the 200 bicycles donated from a good friend of the Marshall Islands, Mayor Jason Hu, will be made to good use by the people of the Marshall Islands.” In responding to the ROC Ambassador, Minister Silk said, “the important gifts of friendship from the Republic of China (Taiwan) are greatly appreciated..” Minister Silk stressed that, “this is only possible because at one time the people of ROC were recipients of donations from other countries, today they are doing it because they can and they care.”

In attendance at the ceremony were President Zedkaia, Ambassador Li, Ministers John Silk, Amenta Matthew, Nidel Lorak, Kenneth Kedi and a number of senior officials from the RMI Government and the Embassy of ROC in Majuro.
