ROC (Taiwan) continues to support the protection and rehabilitation of endangered Mulé in the RMI

Majuro - During H.E. President Jurelang Zedkaia’s State Visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan) earlier this month, H.E. Wang, Jin-pyng, President of Legislative Yuan (Speaker of ROC Parliament) was delighted to learn that the Project of endangered Mulé (Micronesia Imperial Pigeon) rehabilitation in the RMI has gained significant progress in Majuro and announced another donation in the amount of US$3,000 dollars to the Marshall Islands Conservation Society (MICS) to continuously support the protection and rehabilitation project of Mulé in the RMI.

The check with the amount of US$3,000 dollars was presented by H.E. Bruce J.D. Linghu, Ambassador of the ROC (Taiwan) to the RMI, to Mr. Albon Ishoda, Executive Director of the MICS at 1:30pm on July 22, 2010 at the RMI Cabinet Conference room. The presentation was also witnessed by H.E. President Jurelang Zedkaia and project managers of MICS.

Back in 2008, Speaker Wang led a delegation to attend the 29th Celebration of RMI Constitution Day. At that time Speaker Wang joined by the delegation members and ROC Embassy staff together donated US$3,000 dollars to MICS to support the efforts for the resurgence of Mulé in Majuro, including the protection of Mulé nesting sites from rat predation, the promotion of public awareness, as well as planting papaya trees and propagation of seeded breadfruit for habitat improvement on North Majuro’s Aenkan Islands.
