Majuro, Friday 18 June 2010 - President Zedkaia and delegations to the 13th Micronesia Chief Executives’ Summit (MCES) and to the State Visit in Republic of China (Taiwan) departed early Monday morning. This will be President’s first Micronesia Chief Executive Summit. President Zedkaia will then continue onwards to Republic of China (Taiwan) for the State Visit.
The delegation to the 13th MCES have been busy preparing for this important meeting taking place next week from June 21 to June 25 in Saipan. The Republic of the Marshall Islands will be represented in the following work groups or Official's meetings: Heath Committee RMI representatives Ambassador Kaminaga and a RMI Health Official, Regional Invasive Species(RISC) and Renewable Energy Committee (REC) RMI representatives Karnes Kusto and Ambassador Kaminaga, Regional Tourism Committee RMI representative Dolores deBrum-Kattil, Pacific Islands Workforce Investment Group RMI representative Marie Maddison, and Micronesia Challenge represented by Yumi Crisostomo.
The RMI will be submitting a resolution on Health to the 13th MCES. A resolution to request and urge the United States Congress to restore Medicaid eligibility for Citizens of the Freely Associated States (FAS) residing in the United Sates and its territories. The RMI will continue dialogue on measures to prevent invasive species into the RMI, reiterate RMI’s commitment to launch the Green Energy Micronesia (GEM), continue dialogue on niche markets in tourism such as the Micronesian Cruise Association, discuss the Guam Buildup, and issues under the Micronesia Challenge such as climate change, conservation, and so forth. Other issues of concern will be brought up during the Official's meetings.
The outcome, 13th MCES Communiqué will be submitted to the Micronesia President Summit and the Forum meeting for further endorsement later this year.
