Admiral Walsh visits Majuro

Admiral Walsh and Minister Silk
Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands – During a two hour stop over in Majuro en route to Hawaii, Admiral Patrick Walsh, the Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet along with U.S. Ambassador Martha Campbell paid a courtesy visit with Minister in Assistance Ruben Zackhras, Foreign Minister John Silk, and Speaker Alvin Jacklick at the airport VIP lounge on Saturday, January 30, 2010.

Minister Silk discussed the possibility of increasing visits of the U.S. Pacific Fleet to the Republic of the Marshall Islands, stating that these visits are mutually beneficial given the opportunity for cultural exchanges, R&R for the sailors/soldiers, and the economic spin-off for the RMI. Minister Silk went on to discuss the Military Build-up in Guam, requesting that the Freely Associated States be given priority for jobs at an equal level with US citizens.

After the courtesy, the Admiral toured the DUD area and went on a canoe ride accompany by Waan Aelon in Majol (WAM) staff, Minister Silk, and Ambassador Martha Campbell.
