Ministry of Health fights Influenza

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is taking an active role in preventing the spread of influenza (flu) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The influenza vaccine was first administered to the MOH personnel as a cautionary measure to ensure those administering the vaccine will not contract the flu.

Now the public health nurses are going out to all the villages and schools in Majuro to vaccinate all children starting with 3 months old including adults 50 years and up.

President Litokwa Tomeing took initiatives and setting example along with the member of the Cabinet, Senators and Speaker Jurelang Zedkaia by taking the flu shot at the Nitijela Chamber while in session.

Those who are at risk of complications from influenza such as anyone with longer term health problems and weakened immune system; with muscles and nerve disorders; with longer term aspirin treatment and illed with diabetes; even those living with or cares for people at high risk of influenza-related complications are highly encouraged to take the vaccine available at the Majuro and Ebeye hospital.
