Majuro, MH May 12, 2008 –
Human Papillomavirus (HPV), most common sexually transmitted virus in which some types can cause cervical cancer in women and can also cause other kinds of cancer in both men and women. Other types of HPV can cause genital warts in both males and females.
May 12, 2008, various groups and organizations along with the Ministry of Health took part in the Opening Ceremony for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine Symposium. At which the first dose of the vaccine was administered to the registered participants of the Symposium and is available freely to girls/women at ages of 12 to 26. The second and third doses will be given in two and four months after, respectively.
Key note speaker Honorable Amenta Matthew, encourages girls and women alike to take the 3 doses in preventing cervical cancer and other infections that HPV may cause.
After the symposium a Memorial Candle Light Tribute was held.
